2 hr 30 min
60 British pounds
Trinity Parish Hall

Service Description

Date: Saturday 17th May 2025, 11am - 12.30pm at Trinity Parish Hall Biomechanics quite simply means the study of biology and the mechanisms of movement. In January 2025, midwife May Bourne qualified in training with the incredible Molly O'Brien to support women and their partners in both pregnancy and labour to utilise biomechanics techniques. These techniques, when used during labour and birth are - quite simply - amazing and can alter the course of labour. In a recent study published by Lennon (2024) in the British Journal of Midwifery, the use of biomechanic techniques during labour and birth increased the rate of spontaneous labour from 57.2% to 72.2%, reducing the need for induction of labour from 42.8% to 27.8%, with emergency c-section rates following induction dropping from 33.1% to 23.8%. Many NHS trusts in the UK are now including biomechanics during labour as standard, and that's why I am so excited to now be able to deliver this workshop to expectant parents during their pregnancy This is an active and interactive workshop, lasting 1.5 hours. We will cover a variety of biomechanic techniques to help open the pelvis, encourage descent of baby through the pelvis, reduce pain, and encourage baby into an optimal position. The techniques are simple and easy for your partner to remember and use in labour. You'll also receive a guide to take home. Please note you will need to bring the following to your workshop: - Yoga mat (essential) - Birthing ball or exercise ball (preferable but not essential) - A large scarf or wrap, made of cotton (not wooly!) - (essential, alternatively you can purchase a traditional Rebozo online (please email me for further details) Biomechanic techniques are simple, effective techniques that you and your birth partner can learn together in pregnancy to significantly increase your chance of a shorter, spontaneous labour. These techniques are also incredibly useful in optimising your baby's position, i.e. turning a 'back to back' baby and therefore optimising space in your pelvis.
